November Newsletter
Hi Everyone
Just a quick note to remind you all of the Tea Dance this coming Sunday November 17th at Portishead. Tea Dance commences at 3pm and Diane will be giving some tuition from 2.30pm. Remember you can save money by purchasing tickets in advance and also don’t forget to bring your loyalty cards. After attending 5 tea dances the 6th one is free. If you haven’t yet had a card there will be one available on Sunday. This month the music is by Mark Helmore.
The Christmas Ball is looming up fast so please don’t miss out on obtaining tickets. The cost is £20 for members and £25 for guests and this includes the 2-course buffet, a demonstration and dancing the fab music of Mark Helmore. The date is Saturday December 21st 7.30pm to 11.15pm.
Weekly Practice Nights continue but there are some blank Tuesdays in December (see attached list of dates). On the list there are a couple of amendments to some of the function dates and we have now booked through until the end of 2026! Nothing like planning ahead!
A big thank you to all those who came along on Sunday to help with the West of England Championships at Keynsham and to those who came to support the Club. We saw some fab events and congratulations to the Club members who did so well.
We are always looking for helpers at our events, such as the Championships, our party nights, the Tea Dances and refreshments on Club Nights. Thank you to the existing band of helpers and to the new ones who have recently joined up. If you feel you can help in any way please do tell us.
Finally some sad news to impart. In September we sadly lost our past Chairman, Fred Butler. Unfortunately I only heard about his passing the day before his funeral so was unable to let everyone know. Fred, together with his late wife, Joan, were stalwarts of the club and great ambassadors. Fred joined the Committe in 2000, was Vice Chairman in 2004, and Chairman from 2005 – 2015, becoming Vice Chairman again in 2016 until 2019. He is certainly missed by myself and many others. Then a few weeks later I learnt that another past Chairman has died, Terry Ferren. Terry was Chairman of the Club from 1990 until 1994 and saw the start of the Weston Super Mare Championships when we hosted 8 teams from various countries in Europe. Terry’s funeral takes place on Wednesday 13th November at 2.30pm at Weston Crematorium followed by the wake at Worlebury Golf Club. It would be nice to see those who remember Terry there to celebrate his life.
I think that’s all for now.
See you soon
Best Wishes
Peter (Jones)
