Avon Dancers Newsletter - 5th November 2021

Hi Dancing Friends
What a busy few weeks we have had and it hasn’t been helped with me succumbing to the dreaded Covid!  It was not something I had envisaged, having been double jabbed, but I am pleased to say that all is well now and things are getting back to normal.
Unfortunately it meant that we had to postpone the delayed annual general meeting on 19th October, and this has now been rescheduled for 23rd November at 7.30pm.  Members will already have received the agenda, and this will commence at 7.30pm.  The usual practice night will take place around 8.15pm and is extended until 10.30pm that night.
The Autumn Dance went well on 23rd October, and I was so sorry to have missed this.  In fact this was the first social event that I have been unable to attend in 45 years!  There was a really good team of helpers that evening, who dealt with the setting up of the Hall, the catering, the raffle and then the clearing up.  Thank you to everyone who helped.
Then last weekend we presented the West of England Dance Championships at the magnificent Winter Gardens, Weston Super Mare.   It is always a delight to see dancing in this wonderful ballroom and we certainly witnessed some beautiful dancing that day.   Once again we had a great team of helpers to ensure that the day ran smoothly and a huge thanks goes out to each and everyone.   Our next Championships will be the City of Bristol Championships at the Winter Gardens on April 10th and I do hope we will again get a good turnout of competitors that day.
This coming Sunday, 7th November, we are holding our monthly Tea Dance at the Somerset Hall, Portishead, from 3pm until 6pm, where Peter Tebby will once again be playing the music for us.  There will be the usual array of delicious cakes etc during the interval at about 4.15pm.  Unfortunately Diane Barron is not available this month to do the half hour tuition, but she will be back again at the next Tea Dance on 9th January at 2.30pm.  Tickets for the Tea Dance are £3.50 in advance for members, £4 at the door, or £5 for non-members, £5.50 at the door.
The annual Christmas Ball is taking place on Saturday 18th December from 7.30pm until 12.15am and we will be having a fantastic ballroom cabaret that evening from champions, Glenn-Richard Boyce and Carly Janes.  Tickets are now available at £15 for members, and £20 for guests but numbers will be limited, so best to get your order in as soon as possible.
Finally a reminder that we have our weekly practice nights every Tuesday from 8pm until 10pm at £4.50 for members, and £6 for non-members.  All are welcome and thanks must go to those who give of their time to play the music for us, and to provide the teas and coffees.
I look forward to hopefully seeing you on Sunday at Portishead.
With kind regards
Peter (Jones)
